Designed for use by students comfortable with decoding skills, up to grade 12, students learn the building blocks of vocabulary - the 93 most frequently used Greek and Latin roots. Coupled with instruction in prefixes and suffixes, students develop the ability to unlock over 16,000 words without rote memorization. Motivating puzzles and games make learning vocabulary interesting and fun. Differentiated instruction allows students of many different reading levels to work simultaneously.
Okapi is introducing their NEW program for early intervention and prevention called Flying Start to Literacy. Designed for small group instruction, these guided reading books feature 144 student titles from A to M; paired fiction and non-fiction books which address the same concepts, vocabulary, and high-frequency words in different text types and sentence structures. Laminated tri-fold Lesson Cards accompany each pair and provide teacher support including a synthesizing activity focusing on the key concepts of both books, a phonics lesson, and a writing activity. Teachers of pre-readers are provided special support with "vocabulary starters". Take Home books and writing activities extend the learning. Okapi Explorations and Exploraciones (in Spanish) are a line of leveled non fiction guided reading books supported by Smart Boards, big books, teacher guides and an assessment tool. These books make a perfect nonfiction bookroom and correlate closely to the new Common Core Standards.
Iversen is a NZ based early childhood publisher of supplemental materials which utilize a Reading Recovery pedagogy.
